Al Mohler on The Nativity Story
"...the movie faithfully presents the main thrust of the Christmas story. That is no small achievement.
The movie, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, takes some liberties with the biblical accounts found in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Nevertheless, the invented scenes and dialogue do not distract from the biblical storyline. The screenplay by Mike Rich presents key truths such as the virgin conception and deity of Jesus with unambiguous clarity and artistic force."

Sadly, most critics are not as enthusiastic (26% today on the Tomatometer).

I can't say how much conviction it takes to keep a project like this under control. Most people have no idea how a movie is made, or a CD produced.
The initial --idea-- begins with writing, but it is stunning how the initial thoughts that start a project are turned upside down by the --suits-- to make a movie that will make money.
Art and business have always collided. So when we see a project that keeps the context true, it should be supported.
Do the reviewers not like the moive because they don't like the scirpt?
Personally, I prasie God for moives like this that can creep into the culture, and climb that huge mountain to make a release date. Most movies with a --Christian theme-- go the way of "The Omega Code". To have one attempt to tell the story of Jesus without
--Hollywoodizing-- ala "The Last Temptation of Christ" is refreshing.
Who would have thought the same director that gave us the 1988 gem, "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" would have done this!

--my error...she was production designer on that film, not the director.
Catherine Hardwicke has directed:
Lords of Dogtown & Thirteen. She has worked on many other films as production desiner, art director and second unit director.
